In a relatively big spot on July 31st, with Minnesota looking to bounce back from a series-opening loss against Cleveland, Dobnak spun five scoreless frames against the team’s top division rival. Randy Dobnak allowed only three hits and two walks while striking out four.

This comes on the heels of a strong season debut, where Dobnak held the White Sox to one run over four innings in Chicago. Randy Dobnak is an out-of-nowhere sensation who’s begun to really make his name on the major-league scene.

After a series of early season off colour for the Minnesota Twin, their season was inevitably bounced back to their best and they had been a force in the season onward. The Twins are taking care of business and looking like a force to be reckoned with. But each day there are new developments threatening this precarious 2020 MLB season, casting a constant cloud of uncertainty.

Minnesota narrowly missed being impacted in the past week, but were able to play all their games and went 5-1 to claim sole possession of first place in the AL Central. The Twins got a scare when news of multiple positive COVID tests for St. Louis players surfaced, shortly after the Cardinals were swept out of Minnesota.

Thursday’s series opener against Cleveland was in doubt as personnel went through rapid testing all afternoon, but ultimately the Minnesota giant team, Minnesota Twins were able to avoid postponement all week.

In keeping with its established strengths, Minnesota homered three times enroute to the win over the Cubs. Even though they’ve fallen from the power heights they reached in 2019, when the Twins set the single-season record for team home runs, they still rank sixth in MLB in 2020.

At 39 years old, DH Nelson Cruz leads the team with 16 home runs, and Miguel Sano, Byron Buxton and Eddie Rosario have also reached double figures. Marquee free agent addition Josh Donaldson also is beginning to flash vintage power just in time after missing much of the abbreviated season with a calf strain.

After much scares to the season, the Minnesota Twins are now set to advance to the final in their post season playoff. With an easy 8-1 win over the Cubs on Saturday night, the Twins clinched a spot in the expanded 2020 Major League Baseball postseason.

The Twins will be part of the playoffs in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2009-10 after defeating The Mills in their first playoff game. The Twins become the fifth team to secure a spot in the 2020 postseason, as they join the Dodgers, Rays, White Sox and A’s.

When Twins manager Rocco Baldelli first addressed his team during spring training in February, he set the expectations as high as he possibly could: This was a team capable of winning the World Series. When he afterward met with his team again near the beginning of summer camp, Baldelli didn’t need to utter those two magic words again. His players knew the expectations.

“We’re not done,” Manager Rocco Baldelli said. “We’re just getting going right now. That’s the mentality and that’s the feel in that clubhouse.” After their victory against the Cubs. But the Twins are projected to win 34.5 games during this 60-game season, with -143 odds on the Over and +115 odds on the Under. Thus, that indicates how oddsmakers believe the AL Central is soft and therefore assumes that Minnesota can win close to 35 or more games with 40 of their 60 games in division.

Moreover, The Twins are tied with the Rays with +800 odds to win the AL, behind only the Yankees (+175) and Astros (+350). But oddsmakers seem to think it will be easier for teams to get out of the AL and the AL Central is the arguably the easiest division in that league, so the Twins have a clear path to a potential pennant. Minnesota has been given -130 odds to win the AL Central with the Indians (+265) and White Sox (+285) expected to challenge them.

On Saturday, September 19, the Twins took a major step toward that goal: With an 8-1 win over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, they clinched a playoff ticket for the second straight season. The Minnesota giant, The Twins used a solid pitching performance from Michael Pineda, home runs from Eddie Rosario, Miguel Sano and Josh Donaldson and a five-run seventh inning to take the second game of the series from the NL Central-leading Cubs.

Although, The Twins remain alive in the American League Central. Going into Sunday’s slate they’re in second place and trailing the White Sox by three games. Although it’s unlikely they’ll catch Chicago, there’s not much advantage to winning the division given the structure of the 2020 postseason, in which all participating teams will play a best-of-three series in the wild card round.

The Twins will go into that 2020 postseason having lost an improbable 16 straight playoff games, dating to 2004. Last year, they were swept by the Yankees in the ALDS after a 101-win regular season. The Twins haven’t won a playoff series since 2002.

There was a celebration, though perhaps not one quite as harsh as in past years. For one, COVID-19 protocols prevent that. And two, there is more to accomplish. Much more, if they have their way. But still, there was an acceptance of what the Twins have already done. Players wore new shirts that said, “Respect Minnesota,” with “Postseason 2020,” hats as they celebrated. Tyler Duffey cracked open a beer as he left his Zoom press conference. Outfielder Jake Cave said someone in the clubhouse “went big league here with the expensive whiskey.”

“You can count on me carrying about six beers into the shower and spraying them all over the place,” Catcher Mitch Garver said Friday, a day before the team clinched the victory against The Cub

While the Twins are still technically in the hunt for the American League Central title, they trail the White Sox by three games with six games to play. They are currently positioned to take on the Yankees in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight season.

However, the Minnesota Twins will be hoping to go from strength to strength in achieving their goal at the end of the season after their two playoff wins against The Mills and Chicago Cubs.
