Blizzard announced that its “World of Warcraft: Shadowlands” expansion, which was scheduled to release on October 27, needs more time to be ready for launch.

in a statement On the “World of Warcraft” website, Blizzard revealed its decision to postpone “World of Warcraft: Shadowlands” until later this year, saying the title would not be expedited just to meet the previously announced date. The developer has not announced a new release date for the expansion.

“That was a very difficult decision for the team, because we’re just as eager to get the expansion in your hands as it is for you to play – but ultimately, it feels like it’s the right decision for the game – and for our players,” the studio said.

Blizzard has confirmed that it has made “significant progress” in ironing out flaws in core expansion features and gameplay over the past several months.

“We are at a stage where the regions, the campaign and the experience of the higher level mission and the story we have to tell are basically ready for participation,” the developer added. “We’re excited about the vows at the heart of the expansion, and it was exciting to see Torghast take shape into a fun new kind of ‘WoW’ experience, thanks in part to your contributions.”

Despite the progress, Blizzard’s work in Shadowlands, which the studio described as “one of the most complex expansions” it has created, has been hampered by a team working from home amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Blizzard is committed to quality. We think Shadowlands will be something special, and we’ve heard many of you who feel the same way. We need that extra time to ensure Shadowlands fulfills its full potential,” the developer said.

Prior to the release of “World of Warcraft: Shadowlands,” Blizzard will release a preliminary patch on October 13 that will include a revamped character leveling system as well as new character customization options.

“World of Warcraft” was first released in 2004 to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the “Warcraft” franchise, and is set in the world of Azeroth and has become one of the highest-grossing video game franchises ever.

The most recent expansion pack before Shadowlands was “World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth”, which was released in 2018.

In July, Blizzard shut down rumors that there were plans to bring the franchise to the upcoming Xbox Series X.
