MacOS Big Sur is not yet available, but Apple is releasing a useful update for your MacBook
Apple had a busy week pushing a slew of software updates for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch owners, but Mac users might have been disappointed by the fact that macOS 11.0 Big Sur was not released at the same time. This massive Mac upgrade was announced in June alongside iOS 14, iPad OS 14, and OS 7 watch at Apple’s annual developer conference.
While every OS upgrade from Apple is now available to users around the world, Big Sur is still off the table. This is nothing unusual. Last year, macOS Catalina arrived several weeks after the introduction of iOS 13 to iPhones.
In fact, Catalina was officially released on October 7, 2019 and it looks like Big Sur may be heading to a similar launch date. Apple never reveals details about its OS versions until a few days before it becomes available, but it’s very likely that we will hear more news about Mac OS Big Sur in the coming weeks.
Apple has already promised to release new Macs powered by its specially designed processors, dubbed the Apple Silicon, before the end of the year. So, it’s safe to assume that the Cupertino-based company will hold another media event in the coming weeks to unveil the latest Macs – a good opportunity to talk about macOS Big Sur in more detail.
While you might not have all the shiny new features on your Mac yet, Apple announced a new upgrade for Safari which can be downloaded today.

The American company says Safari 14.0 offers new features, faster performance, and improved security. Once installed, you will find a new tab bar design that shows more tabs on the screen and also shows favorite icons by default.
A customizable splash page allows you to set a background image and add new sections as well as a Privacy Report that now shows site trackers that have been blocked by Smart Tracking Blocking.
To get the latest version of Safari, just click “System Preferences” in the Apple menu and click “Software Update.”
You will then see a button that says Update Now. Click this and the installation will begin although it’s worth noting that Safari will need to restart before the features become available.
Of course, this is a small update compared to what will come in Big Sur with this release which brought major changes in the design of this OS along with additional features such as improved messages and a customizable menu bar which features a completely new control center
Speaking of the changes, Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, said: “macOS Big Sur is a major update that advances the legendary blend of UNIX power with the ease of use of the Mac, and delivers our largest design update in more than a decade.
“With its sleek modern look, massive enhancements to major applications including Safari, Messages, Maps, and new privacy features, we think everyone will love the amazing experience that macOS Big Sur has to offer.”
Express.co.uk will provide you with a full release date once you hear more.
