Chris O'Dowd says the reaction against the celebrity "Imagine" front page was justified

The three-minute clip saw actors, comedians and singers, including Kristen Wiig, Jimmy Fallon, Natalie Portman, Will Ferrell, Sia and Norah Jones.

But after Gadot shared a video montage with the stars on his Instagram, critics took to social media to express contempt and accuse celebrities of not being in touch. Singer Nick Cave even called it the “version that causes the most panic”.

Appearing on Monday’s episode of Louis Theroux’s “Underground” underground, O’Dowd said criticism about what was supposed to be a hearty gesture was justified.

“Given my interpretation, I think the feedback is justified,” said the Irish actor and writer.

O’Dowd also revealed that he intervened at the request of a close friend and teammate of “Bridesmaids” Kristen Wiig and participated only because he assumed it was a “charity thing”.

“I’ll do whatever Kristen asks me to do, of course, that’s exactly what we did,” he said. “It’s been five minutes, I haven’t thought about it. I assumed it was because of the kids.”

O’Dowd also mistakenly attributed it to “that first wave of creative diarrhea” that occurred at the start of the pandemic.

Backwards, he said he believed “they just need to cool down and take everything in,” and described the video as “something we don’t need and everyone hates.”

In April, actor Jamie Dornan defended the video saying it was just Gadot’s attempt to lift the spirits of Covid-19 sufferers.

“Basically, she was trying to do a good and kind thing,” Fifty Shades star Shane Todd said during a performance on the “Tea with Me” podcast. “I just backed off with that.”
