At least 2 dead, 4 injured in shooting at California’s Walmart distribution center, officials say
The shooting happened around 3 p.m. PT on Saturday, Red Bluff City Manager Rick Crabtree told CNN by phone.
The car crashed into the distribution center, which started a fire, Crabtree said. The fire was not very significant, Crabtree said.
An unknown man was shot on the spot and taken to hospital, he said. It is unclear whether police arrested the suspect.
“He was an active shooter. He was shot. The last time I heard he was on his way to the hospital,” Crabtree said.
Hendrickson said St. Louis County Hospital Elizabeth in Red Bluff, part of Dignity Health, received a total of six patients from the Walmart distribution center.
Two are dead and four are in good condition, Hendrickson said. She was unable to provide information on the nature of the injuries or the age of the people brought to the hospital.
Dispatchers received multiple calls from the distribution center reporting an active shooter and firing multiple bullets, Teham County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Yvette Borden said by phone Saturday night.
A Walmart spokesman told CNN they were aware of the situation.
“We are aware of the situation and are working with police on the investigation. We currently have no additional information we could share,” Walmart spokesman Scott Pope told CNN.
Borden says that the scene is still very active and that the police services are working on cleaning the building. The building is very large, Borden said. Law enforcement officials have already carried out an initial cleaning of the building looking for the shooter and possible casualties, Borden said.
This is an evolving story.
