Senator Tammy Duckworth, who lost her legs in a job in Iraq, strikes back after Tucker Carlson suggests she hates America
Duckworth later retired from the Illinois Army National Guard as a lieutenant colonel and went on to become assistant secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs in the Obama administration.
When she was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2016, she became the first woman with a double amputation to serve in the chamber and was the first senator to give birth while in power.
“You shouldn’t criticize Tammy Duckworth in any way because she once served in the military,” Carlson said, acknowledging he was aware of her service.
Carlson then attacked Duckworth as a “deeply silly” and “unimpressive person” for comments to CNN suggesting a “national dialogue” on the possible removal of a monument to the founding fathers, such as George Washington, who owned slaves,
“You can’t think about a person’s patriotism for a long time,” Carlson said after replaying a clip from Duckworth’s appearance on CNN over the weekend. “It’s a very strong charge and we try never to make it.”
“But despite all this, a conclusion cannot be avoided: These people actually hate America,” Carlson added. “No more questions about that.”
