China is announcing retaliatory measures against the American media
The Associated Press, United Press International, CBS News and NPR News must submit the relevant documentation to the Chinese government within seven days, Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a regular press briefing on Wednesday.
“China is forced to take these measures in the fight against American unreasonable repression of Chinese media in the United States,” Zhao said. “They’re completely self-defense.”
“U.S. measures are based on the Cold War mentality and ideological prejudices,” Zhao added. “They have seriously damaged the reputation and image of the Chinese media and seriously disrupted their normal business in the United States.”
The Trump administration and government in Beijing have been involved in several rounds of tit-to-tat targeting of interconnected media.
