Sam’s Club to hire 2,000 workers, extend some holiday sales events
Owned by Walmart Sam’s Club announced Thursday that it will ramp up its recruitment efforts and extend various sales events as it prepares for the holiday season.
Walmart will introduce Black Friday deals earlier this year
At least three shopping events have been extended beyond a few days, with some continuing for nine or 10 days. These include the retailer’s “November Savings Event”, “10 Days of Thanksgiving Savings” and “December Savings Event”.
However, the move reflects the efforts of its rivals – such as Target – which are expanding deals in an effort to prevent large crowds from gathering on specific days.
As COVID-19 changes traditional holiday shopping traditions, Sam’s Club chief Tony Rogers says the company is “listening and evolving our approach to meeting” customer needs.

Shoppers will be able to use contactless shopping methods such as sidewalk delivery at specific stores, a service launched earlier this year to mitigate the spread of the virus, or they can use Scan & Go technology inside its stores.
For shoppers looking to avoid stores altogether, hundreds of clubs across the country will use the Ship From Club program, where shoppers can ship items directly to their homes.
“Ship from Club is expected to speed up order fulfillment and accounts for around a fifth of all online orders,” the company said in its announcement.

And while the shopping season may look different, the company still anticipates a rush of holidays. To help meet the growing demand, it will employ 2,000 permanent, full-time employees across the country in both implementation and distribution centers.
The company said Hourly Fulfillment Center partners will receive a $ 2 hourly premium during the holiday season.
Hundreds of jobs will be available at the company’s new fulfillment center in Pires, California, which opened last month.
