Cyclist caught in video attack as 3 people publish leaflets to help Black Lives Matter arrested
Sixty-year-old Anthony Brennan III of Kensington, Maryland, has been arrested and charged with three counts of second-degree assault, Maryland-National Capital Park police reported.
The incident happened on Monday when a man and two women were walking through the crescent capital in Montgomery County publishing leaflets in support of the Black Lives Matter. According to police, the suspect started arguing with them over the leaflets and forcibly grabbed some leaflets from one of the victims.
He then pushed his bicycle towards the male victim, causing him to fall to the ground, according to police. The male victim recorded the entire incident.
Following the incident, Maryland-National Capital Park police have asked the public for help in finding suspects and community members sent to hundreds of councils in recent days. Police used various sources to further corroborate this information before identifying Brennan.
Park contacted Brennan and his legal counsel on Friday and they agreed to search Brennan’s home while members of the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office and park police were present. Police say they found and seized evidence at home.
Police then handed Brennan an arrest warrant on Friday night after he surrendered voluntarily, according to a police statement.
Maryland-National Capital Park Police thanked the victims for their courage and civic engagement to testify in solving the problem. They also thanked the community for coming out with advice and information.
A man who filmed a video of a cyclist confronting him and friends as he posted signs asked CNN not to identify him for fear of retaliation.
CNN cannot independently verify what happened before and after the video and contacted Brennan’s attorney for comment.
